Kuchipudi

Solo

The Andhra tradition — more narrative, more theatrical, and danced with a different weight through the feet.

Kuchipudi comes from a village of the same name in Andhra Pradesh, and it carries its origin as dance-drama in the body. The weight falls differently through the feet than in Bharatanatyam — lighter, more mobile, readier to travel across the stage.

Where Bharatanatyam strikes and holds, Kuchipudi tends to flow between shapes. Its narrative inheritance shows: a dancer is more often playing someone than presenting a form.
